He emigrated to America about 1850 and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylva­nia, where for some time he worked as a weaver and then removed to the southern portion of Clarion County and worked in the iron furnaces. In 1855 he settled in the town of Clarion, Pennsylvania, and in partnership with D. Strickler, purchased an iron foundry and remained in that industry until his death.
