General Notes: Husband - Elmer Andrew McElhaney

He received his early education in the public schools, but when only nine years of age the death of his father threw upon him, as the eldest child, part of the responsibility for the support of his mother, so he left school at seventeen years of age and went to work, entering the employ of S. S. Wilson to learn the trade of carpenter, and remained with him for seven years and then established a business of his own as contractor, carpenter and builder. His first contract was for the dwelling known as the Dr. Ross residence on Seventh avenue, Clarion, and he thereafter built many of the finer residences and business buildings in the town, as well as eight houses which he owned and leased to tenants. In 1899 he erected his own home at 94 South Fourth avenue, Clarion.
