He engaged in farming in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, until 1882, when he came to Smith Township, Washington County, where he resided until 1900, when he retired and moved to Burgettstown, where he died.
He was successively an elder in three churches\emdash the church in Middle Spring, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; the Florence Presbyterian Church, and later the Burgettstown Church.
