General Notes: Husband - H. Byers Kuhns

He graduated from Washington and Jefferson college and admitted to the bar of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in February, 1849. He was a soldier in the Mexican war and served throughout the contest. He entered as third sergeant but was promoted to second lieutenant, being commissioned by President Polk. During the entire civil war he was with Gen. Coulter, serving in the adjutant general's office. He was a good mathematician and an excellent writer.
