General Notes: Husband - Michael Keffer

He was educated in the subscription schools of Ligonier township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and early became the assistant of his father in the management of the homestead farm on which he spent his entire life. He sold the lower end of the estate, consisting of two hundred acres, to George Bissel, of Pittsburgh. Mr. Keffer was known as one of the progressive farmers of the Ligonier Valley and had other business interests as well. Before the Pennsylvania Railroad was completed he spent several winters in transporting from Pittsburgh to eastern cities goods of various kinds, making his trips over the old pike and becoming famous for his superior skill in the management of his splendid team, which was recognized as one of the finest on the road.
In politics Mr. Keffer was a Democrat. He served as elder and deacon in St. James' Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ligonier, and was a member of the building committee. About 1897 he relinquished the management of the farm and moved to Ligonier, where he passed the remaining years of his life.
