General Notes: Husband - Jacob Keffer

He was born in Germany, and as an infant was brought by his parents to the United States. He became a successful farmer, purchasing the estate of five hundred acres which later became the property of his grandson, Jacob E. Keffer. Jacob Keffer, the grandfather, cleared a great portion of the tract and about 1835 built a substantial dwelling, using as material, stone which he found on the farm. In 1856 he replaced a solid log barn, which was on the place when he came to it, with a finer and more modern structure. He was a Democrat, filling a number of minor township offices, and his religious membership was in St. James' Lutheran Church, Ligonier, where he served both as elder and deacon.
