He was born near Manheim, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and when ten years of age was brought to Union County by his parents who located in Lewis township, on a farm where his father later died. The son then purchased the old homestead, on which he continued to reside until called to his final rest. It then became the property of sons, Samuel F. and Henry W.
