General Notes: Husband - [Father] Jordan

The will of Thomas Jordan, dated 6 February, 1790, was probated Sept., 1790, in Cecil County, Maryland (EE-5/243). The testator describes himself as of "Milford Hundred" Cecil County and "far advanced in years." He names his wife, Ann, daughters Elisabeth and Jean, sons Thomas, Benjamin and Hugh, and a grandson Samuel "son of John Jordan, deceased."
The first census of 1790 reflects importantly on this family status. Ann Jordan appears as a head of family in North Milford Hundred, Cecil County, Maryland. Under Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, appears Hugh Jordan and Benjamin Jordan in consecutive order.
One Samuel Jordan, who may or may not have been the grandson mentioned, appears as a "single freeman" in the first tax list of Clearfield County in 1806/7. It would thus appear that the family had completely migrated from the home place. The fact that none of the male heirs mentioned in Thomas Jordan's will was residing in Maryland at the time of his death is further evidenced by the naming of one "Thomas Camble" as sole executor.
