She received her primary education at the district school in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and added to it by extensive reading and wide observation. In addition to her three valuable farms in Cumberland County, she owned a comfortable residence at Shippensburg, and spent the greater portion of her time there, surrounded by comforts supplied by ample means. She was a consistent member of the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, and was very active in its good work.
