General Notes: Husband - David Hosack

He was born in Adams County, Pennsylvania, in Gettysburg, on the very spot on which, nearly seventy-five years later, occurred one of the most hotly contested battles of the Civil war.
In the year 1802 he, with his father's family, immigrated to Mercer County, Pennsylvania, settling on a tract of land on the south branch of Mill Creek, now a part of Findley Township, where they became the possessors of a large tract of land, a part of which became the property of David.

A boy of eleven years when he came with the family to Findley Township, Mercer County, he was bred to agricultural pursuits, and when ready to begin life for himself bought a small tract of land adjoining the parental homestead. He succeeded well in his undertakings, and from time to time purchased other land, at the time of his death having a finely improved farm of upwards of five hundred acres. He was a patriotic, public-spirited citizen, and during the war of 1812 enlisted as a private in Captain McClintick’s company and was subsequently promoted to the rank of corporal. At the time of his enlistment he was engaged to be married to the woman who afterwards became his wife, and on bidding her good-bye he presented her with a shawl, which she ever considered one of her choicest possessions.
Of the twelve children born to David and Rebecca Hosack, ten grew to years of maturity.
