General Notes: Husband - Alfred John Heron

During the early oil excitement at Titusville, Pennsylvania, he was proprietor of the old American Hotel, well known as a landmark at the birthplace of the petroleum industry. Between 1889 and 1893, he and his family moved from Titusville to Bowling Green, Ohio, where he followed the oil fields as an oil well shooter, a highly dangerous occupation.

The Evening Tribune, Bowling Green, Ohio
Monday, July 9, 1900
Prominent Resident of the City died very suddenly Saturday night.
A. J. Herron, the well known oil well shooter passes away.
His demise was caused by hemorrhage of the stomach.
Mr. Herron had resided here for twelve years--he leaves a wife and four children.
A. J. Herron, one of the oldest well shooters in Ohio, passed away shortly before midnight, Saturday, at his home on East Wooster street. His death was very sudden and unexpected, and was caused by a hemorrhage of the stomach.
Mr. Herron had a similar attack last winter, but lately had been enjoying quite good health. He was on the street Saturday and conversed with many of his friends, and seemed as well as usual. In the evening he retired at his customary hour but had not slept when stricken with the attack. He died before medical aid could be summoned. The shock occasioned by his demise was a very severe one to his wife and children.
The deceased was a Canadian by birth and was about 50 years of age. Twelve years ago he moved to this city from Titusville, Pa., and since has resided here
permanently. He had followed the dangerous pursuit of well shooting for many years and was one of the most careful and skilled experts in the business. Mr. Herron has doubtless shot more wells in this territory than any other shooter who has followed the pursuit a similar length of time, and has been more fortunate in never experiencing an accident.
For some time past Mr. Herron had been connected with the Findlay Glycerine Co. Through his constant associations with oil men he acquired a very large acquaintance and his many friends were deeply grieved to learn of his death. He leaves a wife and four children. He was a prominent member of the K of P Lodge and the funeral services will be conducted under the direction of this organization, from the family residence at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Interment will take place in Oak Grove cemetery.

General Notes: Wife - Mary Tubbs

GONE FROM THIS WORLD
Mrs. Mary Herron died this morning after long and painful illness.
She had lived in this city for thirteen years.
Four children survive mother who was loved and respected by all Funeral Monday.
This morning at ten minutes past 8 o'clock, the death angel came and called Mrs. Mary Herron to the land of rest and happiness where there is no suffering. After suffering for eight weeks on her bed with patience and courage, she passed into the peaceful sleep to be with her husband who preceded her to the other shore some four years ago. She had been in poor health about a year, but not bedfast until two months ago. Her death was caused by a paralysis of the blood vessels. Mrs. Herron was attacked by a squirrel several weeks ago and it was reported that she was suffering from blood poison, but this was not the case. The shock caused by the experience with the squirrel probably hastened the disease which had been afflicting her, but it was not primarily the cause of death.
Mrs. Herron was born in Titusville, Pa., Dec. 26, 1857 and her maiden name was Mary Tubbs. She came to this state about thirteen years ago and has resided in this city nearly all of this time. She was the widow of A. L. Herron, who died at his home in East Wooster Street about four years ago.
Mrs. Herron was the mother of four children all of whom survive her, Harriet Herron, who lived with her mother; Mrs. Thomas Hayes, of Marion, Ind., Lulu and Merle at home.
Mary Herron was well known here and was one of those good Christian ladies who are the friends of the troubled, and willing at all times to do what she could for those around her. She was a thoughtful mother and the home will miss her sadly because of the love and cheerfulness that has been taken from it. Since the death of Mr. Herron she has not been out much preferring to remain in the quiet of her own home with her family to society.
The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at the home and Rev. Rogers will conduct the services over the body of the loving mother and kind friend.
