General Notes: Husband - Frank R. Hays

He was born on the old family homestead a few miles west of Oil City, in Oakland Township, Venango County, PA, and spent his early life there, acquiring a good education in the local schools. In 1902 he left the farm and joined his brother Ora in Oil City, starting the milk products business which they operated for several years under the name of Hays Brothers. In 1913 he purchased the Brundage bakery in Oil City, an old established place which then was carried on by the Hays Baking Company, one of the partners being C. H. Turner, an expert baker, under whose direction a full line of first-class bakery goods was produced. During the first five years of Mr. Hays' involvement with the business the trade enlarged notably, including an extensive wholesale patronage as well as select retail custom. Fifteen employes were regularly engaged. Mr. Hays also gave a large share of his attention to the oil interests which he and his brother, Ora, acquired.
In July, 1918, Frank R. Hays left for France, having offered his services as a Y. M. C. A. worker for the war. He was an Odd Fellow and a thirty-second-degree Mason, having gone through both the York and Scottish Rites. His favorite outdoor recreation was hunting, which he indulged on various trips to the Maine woods and Canadian forests. [CAB, 648]
