He was reared on the old family homestead, and after obtaining his elementary education in the district schools pursued his studies in Curwensville, Pennsylvania. When he entered upon his business career, he gave his attention to the occupation to which he had been reared, and throughout life followed farming. In 1887 he purchased the J. A. Woolridge farm, comprising 109 acres of well-improved land. In his political views, he was a stanch Republican, deeply interested in politics.
