He was twelve years old when his father died, and he made his home with his brother, Jabez, until 1849, when he married and located in Keating township, on the farm where he was engaged in farming all his life.

He was a farmer of Keating township, McKean County, Pennsylvania, a Democrat, and held many offices including county commissioner and school director.

Mrs. Gallup was a Seventh-Day Baptist, while her daughters were Episcopalians.
