General Notes: Husband - Abraham S. Prather

He was born on the old homestead farm, Cornplanter Township, Venango County, PA. He was educated in the public schools, supplimented by a special business course at Duff's College, Pittsburgh, Pa. He was reared on the farm and began his career as a member of the firm of Prather Brothers, lumber dealers in Venango County. Later he was extensively engaged in the oil business and still later in the banking business. In the year 1873, he came to Jamestown, New York, where he engaged in the manufacture and sale of lumber and where he built the first brick manufacturing plant which he operated for a number of years. It was destroyed by fire Feb. 4, 1881. Later he returned to the lumber business. On Aug. 4, 1862, He enlisted in Co. I, 142nd Regiment, Penna. Volunteer Infantry, ranking as 1st Sergeant. He was honorably discharged Jan. 6, 1863, on account of disability. His name appears on the war records as Abraham S. Prather. He was a charter member of James M. Brown Post No. 285 Grand Army of the Republic, and was elected first Commander of the post after its organization in 1882. He was made a Mason in Shepherd Lodge, F. & A. M. at Titusville, in 1866, but on moving to Jamestown, NY, became a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge No, 145 of that city. He was also a member of the Western Chapter No. 67, Royal Arch Masons, Jamestown Council, and Rose Croix Commandery of Titusville. He belonged to the Union Grange Patrons of Husbandry. He was a Republican and a member of the Congregational Church and the men's club of that Congregation.

He operated the Jamestown Metal Art Company. There is a Prather Street named for him in Jamestown, NY.
