General Notes: Husband - Abraham D. Koch

He was born Aug 29, 1807, in Montgomery County, PA. [HVC 1890, 1123]
In 1840 he and his wife moved to Venango County from Berks County, PA. He built a flouring and lumber mill, one of the first in the section, operating it from 1846 until his death in 1867 when his son Alfred took his father's place as overseer of the homestead and continued the milling business for 22 years. The mill was one of the finest of its day and took charge of the business of a wide area of the surrounding country for many years. [PAR, 137]

He was a miller by trade, and in 1840 moved from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, to Clarion County. He followed the milling business there, and during 1846 moved to Venango County, Pennsylvania, and built a mill at East Sandy. He was postmaster at East Sandy for a number of years.

General Notes: Wife - Harriet Henrietta Fritz

Oil City Blizzard, Oil City, PA; Thursday 12 Jan 1911:
The death of one of Venango County's oldest residents occurred this morning. Mrs. Harriet Fritz Koch, who celebrated the 94th anniversary of her birth Sept 19, 1910 at her home in East Sandy, died this morning at 6 o'clock. She was one of the oldest and best known residents of the county
In 1840 Abraham and Harriet moved to Venango Co. from Berks Co., PA. The journey was made by stage coach and steamboat and the novelty of the long trip, with several interesting adventures, was always an interesting topic for Mrs. Koch in her advanced years to talk about. The couple settled near Alum Rock (in Clarion County) and later moved to East Sandy (Van) where Mrs. Koch resided continuously for 66 years, the present homestead having been remodeled from the original house.
For the past two years, Mrs. Koch was not able to leave her room, having suffered a fall. Prior to that time she did a large share of her own housework. Up until a few years ago, her birthday was celebrated by a family reunion at Monarch Park and these pleasant occasions were always looked forward to by the honored guest, who dearly loved the companionship of her family and friends.
For most of those years, she enjoyed excellent eyesight; her hearing was acute and her mental faculties unimpaired and she spent the greater part of the day in reading and conversing with the members of her household and nurse. Last week she contracted a severe attack of pleurisy which was the ultimate cause of her death.
