He was educated in the public schools of Mt. Pleasant township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and followed the business of farming, taking a special delight in agricultural pursuits. He was the possessor of one hundred and sixty-eight acres of excellent, well-cultivated land in Rostraver township. He was a democrat and a prominent member of the Presbyterian church at Rehoboth.
