About 1824 he and his wife began housekeeping on a tract of one hundred acres in the woods of Cherrytree Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, situated a mile north of Cherrytree on the Titusville road, the farm where their son William A. Stewart was later established. Eleven children were born to this pioneer couple, five of the daughters being unmarried and at home at the time of the mother's death.
