General Notes: Husband - Charles Shannon Humes

His boyhood days were spent on his father's farm, assisting with the farm labor, and his education was obtained at Clarks school and the Laird Institute. After completing his studies he clerked for his father, and for two years subsequent to the death of the latter he conducted the business, a general country store, after which he disposed of his interest to L. M. Ryckman, and gave all his time and attention to the farm which was previously the property of his father. The farm is located only a short distance south of the Export postoffice, consisting of rich and arable land, well stocked with a fine breed of cows and other cattle.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church at Harrison City, in which he served as leader of the choir, and his services as a singer were frequently sought for funerals in the surrounding country. His political affiliations were with the Prohibition party, and he was a member of the Maccabees, K. O. T. M., O. T. W., at Jeannette, Pennsylvania.
