Greenville, Mercer Co, PA

He remained under the parental roof until he grew to maturity, receiving a common-school education. Ere reaching manhood he began clerking in a dry goods store in Greenville, and in 1877 formed a partnership with W. A. Keck in the dry goods business. He continued a member of the firm of Keck & Emery until February, 1886, when he sold out to his partner and, with his brother, P. C., purchased the boot and shoe stock of William Beatty & Sons, which he sold out in the fall of 1888, with the intention of re-entering the dry goods business in 1889.
