He was educated in the public and high schools of Butler, Pennsylvania, and in the University of Pittsburgh, College of Pharmacy, from which he was graduated in 1911 with the degree of Ph. G. He then returned to Butler and opened a drug store on Main and North Streets. In 1915 he sold this store to Doctor Keeler and entered the University of Pittsburgh College of Dentistry, from which he was graduated in 1918 with the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. His license having been granted him, he returned to Butler and set up in the practice of his profession.
He was a Republican, and he belonged to the Butler County Dental Society, Lake Erie Dental Society, Penn State Dental Society, and the American Dental Association. He was a member of Kappa Psi, of which he was historian, and Omicron Kappa Upsilon honorary fraternity, of which he was class historian in 1918. He also belonged to the Bellfield Lodge, F. and A. M., No. 680, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; the Butler Chapter, R. A. M., No. 273; Lorain Commandery, K. T., No. 87; Syria Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S., of Pittsburgh; and Syria Caravan No. 14, A. A. O. N. M. S., of Butler. He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church.
