He went from the Sample School, in Cranberry Township, Butler County, PA, to Grove City College, where he pursued his studies for two years and then took up the study of dentistry, in 1896 entering the Balti­more College of Dental Surgery, and was graduated in the class of 1899. In June of the same year he located at Zelienople, opening an office over the People's Na­tional Bank, and built up a large and lucrative practice. He belonged to the Elks at Butler and retained his membership in his college fraternity, the Psi Omega. In his political affiliation he was a Republican.
