He and his wife lived near Callensburg, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, until 1875, when they moved to Allerton, Wayne County, Iowa.

Samuel married Emma Margaret Bowser.3 4 Emma was born on 23 Apr 18463 and died after 1922.

He attended the public schools of Allerton, Iowa, graduating from the high school in 1908. He took a secretarial course in the Capital City College, Des Moines, graduating in 1909, and entered Tarkio College, Tarkio Missouri, in 1910, where he graduated with the B. S. degree in 1914. He then took up his theological studies in the theological seminary of his church at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1917, and was ordained in June of that year by the Des Moines Presbytery of the United Presbyterian Church as a missionary to the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan. He sailed for his station in October, 1917, and located at Omdurman, the old Dervish capital, and was director of the American mission schools in the Sudan.

4. Anna Adella Shields 3 (Samuel Frampton1) was born on 4 Jan 1871.3

Anna married Joshua Davis.3

Resided in Reeder, Colorado.

6. Mary Core Shields 3 (Samuel Frampton1) was born on 17 Feb 1874.3

Mary married James E. Moore.3 James died in 1908.3

He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, Co. H, 51st Iowa Reg.
Resided in Fort Yates, North Dakota.

John married Othelia W. White.5
