General Notes: Husband - Gillis McPherson Doty
He was born on the family homestead in Blacklick, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, where he was educated in the public schools of the township. Remaining on the homestead with his mother and sister Margaret J., he made farming and stock raising his business, and followed those lines during his active life. In 1910 he had to give up business on account of his health, and he located in the village of Blacklick, where he lived retired. He retained the ownership of the homestead farm.
He was a member of F. & A. M. Lodge No. 313, of Indiana, which he joined in 1864, at the age of twenty-one years, and also belonged to the B. P. O. Elks. He was always a Republican, and was keenly interested in the Progressive movement headed by Colonel Roosevelt.
