He was of Welsh descent, and came to Indiana County, Pennsylvania, about 1793 and first located in the Robinson settlement, near the present site of Jacksonville. His first permanent home was on what later became the J. J. Lewis farm, in Young township.
He and his wife were natives of Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and about 1800 came to the farm later owned by their grandson, J. J. Lewis [in Young township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.]
He settled on the old homestead in 1796.
