He lived at Moreau, Saratoga County, New York, until 1859, when he removed to Guys Mills, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. His education was received at public school in Saratoga County, and at the academy, Fort Edward, New York, from which he graduated. Both in New York and in Pennsylvania he was a farmer. He was a Republican, and held many township offices. He was a Congregationalist, and a deacon in the church.
