General Notes: Husband - Hudson Hughes
He received a good common-school education and learned the blacksmith's trade. For a number of years he was engaged in the oil business, working at drilling wells and similar work connected with oil wells. Later he moved to Virginia and there followed the same line of work. He returned to Pennsylvania on account of failing health, dying in a year or two thereafter, aged about forty years. He, like his venerable father, was a very energetic and progressive man, and owned considerable property. He was a local minister in the Methodist Episcopal church and frequently preached the Word; he was of a religious turn of mind from his earliest youth. He was also a natural genius in many particulars, being able to do work successfully in many branches where skill was demanded. It is said of him that he was extremely kind and not lacking in humor.
