General Notes: Husband - John Leasure
He was one of the scouts sent to guard the houses of the settlers along Crooked creek, in what is now western Indiana and eastern Armstrong counties in Pennsylvania.
In young manhood he moved to Armstrong township, Indiana County, where he was engaged in farming for several years. He was married in 1796, and lived for a time on a farm that was later the property of Benjamin Walker, in Armstrong township, Indiana County. In 1809 he came to what is now East Mahoning township, locating on a tract of land which was later owned by Samuel T. Brady. The warrant for this tract, which contained 396 acres, was issued Jan. 15, 1802, and the patent dated Jan. 17, 1802, and both papers were made out in the name of John Leasure. He was a noted hunter, and paid for several farms with the proceeds of wolf scalps.
In 1809 he removed to East Mahoning township, where he purchased several farms with the proceeds of wolf scalps, for which he received as high as twenty-four dollars each. He was a great hunter, made his own traps and was known as the "Old Wolf Trapper."
