General Notes: Husband - Mathias Dilley
After completing his schooling, he learned the tanner's trade, abandoning this at the age of forty years to locate on the farm which he had purchased in Sandy Creek Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. After selling that property he removed to French Creek Township, and there continued agricultural pursuits until his death. It is stated that besides being a tanner and a farmer he was also an expert shoemaker, so that during his active years he was never at a loss for employment. He was well known as an influential member of the Presbyterian Church, but took little interest in affairs beyond domestic and religious circles. At different times he was a Whig and a Know-Nothing, but never "dabbled in politics." [HMC 1909, 1036]
