General Notes: Husband - Edward Wasser
He remained on the home farm until twenty-one years of age, and afterward he rented a farm on the shares and also bought and sold horses until the fall of 1851, when he went overland to Allentown, Pennsylvania, a distance of three hundred and seventy-five miles, where he sold his horses at a profit of one hundred and fifty dollars to himself and partner, he receiving seventy-five dollars of the amount. He returned to Mercer County in the spring of 1852 and with his brother rented the old homestead and other land, which they farmed until 1857. Mr. Wasser then farmed by himself until the 15th of May, 1860, when he moved to Clarksville, Pennsylvania, to engage in the butchering business, and from the 25th of December, 1861, he was the owner and proprietor of a store on the Erie canal, but in the spring of 1864 he sold both stores and bought a saw mill in Clarksville, Pennsylvania, and a hotel at Sharpsville, PA. But selling both those enterprises, disposing of the hotel on the 16th of October, 1865, he came to Greenville and for some time was engaged in the sale of potatoes. Then buying a half interest in the Union Brewery on South High street, he later purchased his partner’s interest and admitted Anthony Batteriser to a partnership, the relationship continuing for one year, when Mr. Wasser disposed of his interest to re-engage in the butchering business. In January of 1873 his store and its contents were burned, and from that time until March of 1874 he worked in a butcher shop in Franklin. His next occupation was operating a stone quarry on the shares at Greenville, later resumed his clerkship in Franklin, and coming again to Greenville resumed his quarry work. In November of 1876 he went to New York City, and was employed at his trade in that city and Brooklyn until returning to Greenville in March, 1877, and for four years he has been employed as cook for Company K, Fifteenth Regiment of Pennsylvania National Guards.
