He and his wife came to America about 1808, and located in Jefferson township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, where the father proceeded to work at his trade of shoemaking, but later bought a farm.

A native of Ireland, a farmer by calling, he, upon immigrating to the United States, made settlement to Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, owning land first in Snowden and later in Jefferson township.
