General Notes: Husband - James A. Pearce


He was reared and educated at Livermore, Pennsylvania, until the age of fourteen. On September 10, 1861, he enlisted in Co. G, seventy-sixth Pa. Zouaves, served six months and was discharged on account of sickness. On June 19, 1863, he enlisted in Co. D, second reg., Pa. Vols., was discharged January 2, 1864, and four years later [sic] entered the United States Signal Corps in which he served until August 22, 1865; was in the battles of New Market, Woodstock, Piedmont, Lexington, Stanton, Salem, Berryville, Ohio, Cedar creek, Fisher's Hill and Winchester. After the war he was commissioned by Gov. Hartranft as second lieutenant of Co. D, Livermore Rangers of the National Guards and served as such for several years. From 1865 to 1872 he was engaged huckstering. In the latter year he embarked in the drug business at Livermore.
In politics Mr. Pearce was an uncompromising republican and a strong worker in that party. He served twice as postmaster at Livermore. His first term was from March 10, 1870, to April 1, 1872, and the second term from December 17, 1873, to September 20, 1885. He was elected justice of the peace 1890.

He was reared and educated in Livermore, Pennsylvania, where he was in the drug business for about twenty years. He then removed to Avenmore, where he established himself in the same business, and was also postmaster of the town. His political affiliations were Re-publican, and he and his family are members of the Methodist church.

He had seven children with his first wife, three were deceased before 1890.
