General Notes: Husband - William Dickey

He came to the United States in 1812. The vessel in which he sailed was captured by a British man-of-war and all the crew over twenty-one years of age and unmarried were pressed into the service of the captors. William Dickey deserted twice, was recaptured and severely punished, but suc­ceeded in making his final escape from Hali­fax. After a few years spent in New York and Philadelphia, he removed to Mauch Chunk, where he remained until 1830, and then re­moved to Beaver, Pennsylvania. In 1837 he settled in Irwin township. In 1843 he removed to Mercer County, near the site of Amity Church.
