General Notes: Husband - Oliver Perry Shupe

He had the advantages of the Mount Pleasant public schools, and when twenty-one years of age became associated as superintendent of the firm of Shupe & Wade, distillers, retaining such position for fourteen years. After the death of his father he purchased the distillery, and converted it into the first roller-process flouring mill in western Pennsylvania, and it came to have a capacity of one hundred and twenty-five barrels per day. Besides his Mount Pleasant town property Mr. Shupe owned much valuable timber land, and was a director of the Mount Pleasant branch of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Company, and was largely instrumental in securing the charter for the Mount Pleasant Water Company. He was also vice president and director of the Citizens' Savings & Trust Company of Mount Pleasant. Politically he supported the Democratic ticket. He never sought for publicity as an office holder, but in keeping with good citizenship, served several years as a member and treasurer of the Mount Pleasant school board, and also represented the Third ward of his borough in the council. Mr. Shupe was counted among the worthy members of several fraternal societies, including the I. O. O. F., K. H., R. A., I. O. H., and A. O. U. W.
