He was a wagoner on the old pike from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia for many
years, then became one of the pioneer settlers of Latrobe, Westmoreland County, and a few years later engaged in farming. He later retired from all active business and resided with his son, William H. He was a democrat, was an elder of the United Presbyterian church for several years but later was a member of the Presbyterian church.
