General Notes: Husband - George Augustus Dewoody

On 26 Oct. 1861 he enrolled in Co. H, 4th Pennsylvania Cavalry, remaining with that regiment until made prisoner 10 Nov. 1862 by Jeb Stuart's troopers and held at Libby prison. Paroled after 20 days at Libby, he was sent to Annapolis, Maryland, and from there detailed as provost marshal from Washington to Alexandria. He participated in the following battles: Chancellorsville, Wilderness, Upperville, and Charles City Crossroads. He was detailed to carry dispatches at Culpepper Courthouse and was in the encounter with Jeb Stuart's cavalry at Brandy Station. At the expiration of his term of enlistment, he declined to enroll for a second term and was discharged at Petersburg on Nov. 17, 1864 to return to his farm. He was a member of Mays Post, No. 220, Grand Army of the Republic.
