She was Superintendent of the Chinese Mission Home, San Francisco, California. She went to California in 1878 and engaged in mission work among the Chinese. Her work has been one of the noblest and yet most difficult that man or woman has been called upon to perform. "When she first assumed charge of the home there were about ten girls. Since that time about four hundred women and children have found shelter there. She has defended these helpless ones even at risk of her life until the very police of Chinatown have come to say that she is braver than most men." (From Occidental Leaves).
