He emigrated to America before the Revolutionary War, and settled east of the Allegheny Mountains. He purchased 600 of land at what was then known as the Big Meadows, (this area later became a part of Franklin County, Pennsylvania). Here he prospered, and reared a family of eleven sons. He subsequently sold this land and received in payment Continental money, which not being redeemed, proved worthless. Having thus lost his home and having so large a family he was compelled to bind out the greater portion of his family to others. [Dale Ancestry]
