He was born in England, came to America, and settled in Genesee County, New York, and later came to Warren County, Pennsylvania, settling in Columbus township. He was a farmer, also extensively interested in lumbering. He died at the age of eighty-four years.
He and his wife were first buried on the farm, but later were moved to Columbus Cemetery.
