General Notes: Husband - George M. Lyon

He grew to manhood on a farm and was educated in the common schools and at Jefferson Academy, Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. He worked at the carpenter trade in Burlington, Iowa, with his brother, William, for five years, and in 1876 returned to Pennsylvania, and engaged in farming in Nottingham Township, Washington County, and for two years was also engaged in the hay business, but in 1890 he gave up farming and purchased the general store of W. D. Washabaugh. He served as postmaster at Beck's Mills, later Linden Village, from 1890 until the rural route was established in 1902. He was identified with the Democratic party in politics. In 1907 he was appointed tax collector to fill a vacancy and in the spring of 1909 was elected to a full term. He also served his township as auditor and as a member of the election board.
