He was a manufacturer of carpets and a merchant, and later lived retired in Reedsville, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. He was elected associate judge of Mifflin County in 1885, serving five years; in 1892 he was elected justice of the peace. During the war between the states he was second lieutenant of Company K, 205th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers.
