He graduated at Dickinson College in 1869; graduated at Berkley Divinity School in 1872; in 1875 traveled in Europe and the Holy Land; was ordained to ministry of the Protestant Episcopal Church, and became rector of St. John's Church, Huntington, Long Island; later of Christ Church, Quincy, Massachusetts, and in 1887 was rector of St. John's Protestant Episcopal Church, Troy, New York.
