He came from Maryland to Bedford Furnace (later Orbisonia), Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, about 1776.
Cromwell township, Huntingdon County, was named "in honor of Col. Thomas Cromwell, who was an early settler and a distinguished and hospitable citizen."
