KNOX — Merle J. Alden, 60, of Cranberry RD 1, employed as a machinist at the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. in Franklin, died at 1:30 pm Sunday in Oil City Hospital after a short illness.
He was born August 17, 1916, at Belmar, Venango County, a son of George and Melda Mong Alden.
He and the former Helen Bell were married September 24, 1949. She survives.
Mr. Alden was a member of the Nickleville Presbyterian Church.
He had worked at CPT for the past 21 years.
Surviving along with his wife, Mrs. Helen Alden, are two sons, Eugene and Robert Alden, and a daughter, Janet Alden, all at home; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Overholt of Warren, Ohio; his twin brother, Earl O. Alden of Cranberry RD 1.
Also surviving are his stepmother, Mrs. Winnie Bell Alden of Cranberry RD 1; stepbrothers, Carl Bell of Elmira, N.Y., and Mont and William Bell of Cranberry RD 1; stepsisters, Mrs. Carl (Lois) Shaner of Cranberry and Mrs. Wayne (Jane) Kenemuth of Cranberry, and a number of nieces and Nephews.
Friends will be received after 7 pm today at the William N. Rupert Funeral Home in Knox, where funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday.
Rev. Darrell Knopp, pastor of the Nickleville Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Nickleville Cemetery.
