General Notes: Husband - Joshua Alden
He ran away from the home in Oswego County, New York, and became a sailor; was seized by a “press gang” in Liverpool, and compelled to do duty on board a British man-of-war for a long time, finally escaping by swimming five miles to a Spanish ship; learned their language and shipped on a Spanish vessel bound for Chili. He later became captain, and followed the seas until forty years of age, when he returned to the home he had left as a boy. He lived for several years at Ashville, New York; then moved with his family to Claiborne parish, Louisiana, and in 1846 to Bristol, Illinois, where he died.
