Howard Gadsby, well-known in Irwin Township
Howard C. Gadsby, 78, of Grove City RD 3, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in his home. Although he had been in failing health, his death was sudden.
He was born Dec. 25, 1902, in Raymilton, a son of Isaac and Melissa Baker Gadsby. He was married to the former Sara Elizabeth Davis Aug. 22, 1932, and she survives.
He was a member of the Irwin United Presbyterian Church and was a former trustee of the church. He also belonged to Millbrook Grange.
Mr. Gadsby farmed, having resided on the same farm for 46 years. He had also worked in the coal fields and in construction work, and was retired in 1968 after 10½ years' employment at Polk Center.
He is survived by his wife, one son, David B. Gadsby of Harrisville; five daughters, Mrs. Jessie M. Morrison of Franklin; Mrs. James (Peg) Greggs of Grove City; Mrs. Nancy Montgomery, Massillon, Ohio; Mrs. Paul (Sally) Bliss of Stoneboro RD 2; Mrs. Thomas (Carrie) Shoup of Polk, 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Lewis, Milton, R. Bud, Charles, Ernest and Carl, two half-brothers, Lester and Clyde Gadsby; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Sopher and Mrs. Ethel Amon, and two half-sisters, Mrs. Allie Dick and Mrs. Verna Vogan.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Edward P. McMullen Funeral Home, Sandy Lake, with the Rev. Marvin Barney of the Irwin United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Irwin Cemetery, Irwin Township.
The family is receiving friends at the funeral home this afternoon and from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight.
