General Notes: Husband - A. Vance McQuiston

After attending the district schools until he was fifteen years of age he entered Grove City College, where he remained for about a year, then returned home to learn the milling business followed by his father and grandfather. Four years of thorough training in this field made him master of the business, after which in company with his father he came to Hadley, PA, where they purchased and operated the old Cyrus White grist mill. This plant was under the sole management of A. Vance McQuiston and it was strictly modern in all details of construction and operation. Its machinery was operated by a fifty horse-power gas motor and the capacity of the mill was fifty barrels of flour per day and one hundred and seventy-five barrels of buckwheat, besides feed and mill supplies. The output was shipped throughout the western states and the industry as a whole was one of the most important in northeast Mercer County. In politics a Democrat, he has also served with credit as township auditor and in other local offices. In his fraternal relations he was a member of the Sheakleyville Lodge No. 592, I. O. O. F., and of the Protected Home Circle of Hadley. [HMC 1909, 1084]
