He grew to manhood on the home farm, attending the local schools until sixteen years of age; later he pursued his studies in Meadville College for a number of terms. He then took a course of lectures in the La Fayette Medical University of Pennsylvania, and after his graduation removed to Preempton, Mercer County, Illinois, where he engaged in practice.
