General Notes: Husband - John Cowden
He was educated in the district schools of his native county, and at an early age became active in farming interests. He was very systematic and painstaking in whatever he undertook, and worked his way up from small beginnings to a position of wealth and influence. At the time of his death he was the owner of a farm of two hundred and thirty-seven acres in Washington County, one of one hundred and sixty-six acres in Kansas, and a third of one hundred and seventy-six acres in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. In addition to farming he was largely engaged in stock raising, in which he was equally successful. While he was never desirous of holding public office, he gave his political support many years to the Republican party, and later joined the ranks of the Prohibitionists. Until about ten years prior to his death he was a member of the church at Venice, Washington County, and then joined the church at Houston.
