She graduated from Cornell University, where she held N.Y. Regent and Cornell U. Music Scholarships. She became a math teacher in the Boston area and there met her husband.
Music played a big part in her life. She began violin lessons at nine and was playing with the Berkshire Symphony at age eleven. At thirteen she took up the viola and the next year entered Vassar College as a special student in music, studying with a Curtis Insti­tute professor and playing with the Vassar Symphony. As a high school senior she was a member of N.Y. All State Orchestra. Judy became first chair violist with the Cornell Symphony and the Cornell Chamber Orchestra when she entered the university. After graduation she played with the M.I.T. Symphony before moving to New Hampshire. She later played with the Lakes Region Symphony in NH.
